Katy grew up in Berkshire and her early vocal study was with Maldwyn Davies. Her love for singing and classical music was developed as a teenager with Wokingham Choral Society, who awarded her a Young Singers Bursary and with whom she sang in many oratorio works under the direction of Edward Gardner. She graduated with first class honours in music from the University of Southampton and was subsequently awarded a scholarship to study for an MMus in Performance and Musicology at Royal Holloway, University of London. She currently studies privately with Annette Thompson and is delighted to have been awarded the Dame Felicity Lott Bursary from Royal Holloway to continue her studies.
Her recent solo performances have included The Magic Flute (Pamina), Cosi fan tutte (Despina), Suor Angelica (Nursing Sister), The Magic Flute (2nd Spirit), and Idomeneo (Cretan Woman) for companies including Opera at Bearwood, Hampstead Garden Opera, Harrow Opera and Opera Nova, as well as most recently singing chorus for Hampstead Garden Opera's Elixir of Love. Future engagements include Donna Anna in excerpts from Don Giovanni and Countess Almaviva (excerpts from Le Nozze di Figaro) for Opera Nova. In operetta and musical theatre she has played the role of Calliope in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld for Southampton University Light Operatic society (Nuffield Theatre, Southampton) and the role of Maria in West Side Story.
Solo concert performances have included Michael Tippett's A Child of Our Time at Royal Holloway (conducted by Levon Parikian), Schumann's Frauenliebe und Leben and Britten's A Charm of Lullabies at Swiss Church (Covent Garden), the Picture Gallery (Royal Holloway) and the Turner Sims Concert Hall (Southampton). She has sung in masterclasses with Robin Bowman, Susan McCulloch, and Adrian Thompson.
